Description

Lisa’s handcrafted necklace, “Oil Down,” is undoubtedly an impressive work of art and a wonderful homage to Grenada’s independence. The attention to detail and the symbolic significance behind each element make this piece of jewelry truly special.

The necklace consists of 48 chain links, and each of these chain links is made up of three rings of different sizes, totaling 144 rings. These various sizes symbolize the three islands, Grenada, Cariacou, and Petite Martinique, which make up the island nation of Grenada. The connection of these rings to the chain links with 14-karat gold rings gives the necklace an elegant and harmonious appearance.

The centerpiece of the necklace is a handcrafted silver plate in the shape of a pot with two handles, symbolizing the celebration of the 49th Independence Day. This silver plate was meticulously cast and rolled to achieve the desired shape. In the center of the pot, there is a Grenadite cabochon representing the majestic Grand Etang rainforest. Circling around the cabochon are seven rubies, representing the seven parishes, and in the lower part of the pot, three genuine diamonds are set, symbolizing the three cities in the southern part of Grenada. These precious gemstones not only add to the beauty of the necklace but also represent the diversity and natural treasures of the island.

The colors of the necklace, the gold of the chain connections, the green of the Grenadite, and the red of the rubies, mirror the colors of Grenada’s flag. This not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of the jewelry but also imbues it with deep symbolic meaning, highlighting the pride and cultural identity of Grenada in an impressive way.

My “Oil Down” necklace is undoubtedly a work of art of great significance and beauty, honoring the history, culture, and natural beauty of Grenada in an impressive manner. It will undoubtedly become a valuable heirloom, celebrating the joy and sense of community during Independence Day year after year.
